new commission by SYREETA HECTOR

Syreeta Hector (Tkaronto/Toronto) returns to her Atlantic roots to epxlor personal and performative identities along with her connection to land and space in a new quartet, From The Top. This ensemble piece will examine the roots that connect us to our family histories, and considers what we inherit from our ancestors and the landscape of Eastern Canada. A highly physical work, the piece will delve into the essential elements of human conversation and celebrate the potential of how unique identities can create a cohesive voice.

Syreeta performs alongside collaborators Susanne Chui, Sara Hopkin, and I'thandi Munro, exploring the oppositional pulls that come along with these layers of the self, and how we decide to bring it all to the table or leave a part of oneself behind. Questions like: Who am I? Where are we today? What do we do in order to move forward? will all be considered in this new work. Premiering in Mocean's 20th Anniversary Mainstage Production, Fluid Forms, live at Alderney Landing Theatre April 8 + 9, 2022.
